Sola Scriptura
Scripture Alone
The Bible is the sole infallible authority for faith and life.
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”— 2 Timothy 3:16–17
The Gospel
The Gospel — that Christ died for sinners, was buried, and rose again — comes to us through the inspired, inerrant Word of God. Without Scripture, we have no reliable access to the good news. It is the Bible that reveals our desperate need for a Savior and points us to the only One who can rescue us. Sola Scriptura means we do not add to God's Word or subtract from it. We receive the Gospel as God delivered it — complete, sufficient, and powerful to save.
What Does Sola Scriptura Mean?
Sola Scriptura does not mean that Scripture is the only authority — it means Scripture is the supreme and final authority. Church tradition, creeds, and confessions are valuable, but they are always subject to the correction of God's Word.
The Reformers recovered this truth when the medieval church had elevated human tradition to equal status with the Bible. Luther's stand at Worms — 'My conscience is captive to the Word of God' — was not rebellion against authority but submission to the highest Authority.
This principle means that every teaching, every practice, and every claim must be tested against Scripture. The Bereans were commended for examining even Paul's teaching against the Old Testament (Acts 17:11). How much more should we examine the media and messages we consume?
Scripture Witnesses
“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”
Isaiah 40:8
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12
Why It Matters
In an age of competing voices, opinions, and influencers, Sola Scriptura anchors us to unchanging truth. Media shapes worldviews — and every worldview either aligns with or contradicts the Word of God.
When we evaluate media through this lens, we ask: Does this story honor the truth of Scripture? Does it contradict, twist, or ignore what God has revealed? Does it point viewers toward the God of the Bible or away from Him?
How It Shapes Our Scoring
Our scoring evaluates whether media aligns with biblical truth. The 'Worldview' and 'Reformed Alignment' categories directly assess how faithfully a work reflects the teachings of Scripture. Media that contradicts or distorts biblical truth receives lower scores — not because we impose our preferences, but because God's Word is the standard.
From the Reformed Confessions
“The whole counsel of God, concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man's salvation, faith, and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added.”— Westminster Confession of Faith, 1.6
