How We Score

Our 12-Category Scoring System evaluates every piece of media across content advisories and theological value — producing a single Sola Score from 0 to 100.

The Sola Score (0–100)

The Sola Score is a composite rating that combines editorial reviews, community ratings, and our 12-category analysis into a single number. Higher scores indicate media that aligns well with Reformed values and has minimal content concerns.

Excellent

60–79

Good

40–59

Mixed

Concerning

Content Advisory (Categories 1–7)

Each content category is rated 0–5 dots, where 0 means no presence and 5 means heavy/pervasive.

ViolencePhysical violence, warfare, gore, or depictions of harm

Sexual ContentRomantic or sexual content, nudity, or suggestive material

LanguageProfanity, blasphemy (weighted more heavily), or crude language

Substance UseAlcohol, drugs, tobacco use or promotion

OccultWitchcraft, sorcery, divination, or occult practices (Deut 18:10-12)

Second CommandmentVisual depictions of members of the Godhead. Informational, not punitive

WorldviewAnti-Christian philosophy, moral relativism, or opposing worldview elements

Theological & Redemptive Value (Categories 8–12)

Each value category is rated 0–5 dots, where 0 means no presence and 5 means exceptional.

Reformed AlignmentConsistency with Reformed theology and the Five Solas

Redemptive ThemesGrace, forgiveness, sacrifice, restoration, and gospel echoes

Moral ExemplarsCharacters or subjects that model virtue, courage, and faithfulness

Educational ValueHistorical, theological, or intellectual depth and accuracy

Family SuitabilityAppropriateness for family viewing, discussion potential

Maturity Ratings

Maturity ratings are derived from Content Advisory categories using a two-check system.

All AgesSuitable for all audiences

Mature YouthBest for teens and up with discernment

AdultsAdult content requiring mature perspective

Discerning AdultsSignificant content concerns; requires careful discernment

Community Ratings

Every registered user can submit their own 1–5 star community rating, which contributes to the overall Sola Score.
